Fabric-a-brac

I’m really excited about an event that we’re sponsoring next month. It’s called Fabric-a-brac, and basically it’s the fabric equivalent of a huge second-hand clothes market. All those of you who have an oversized stash of fabric that you’re really not going to get through in your lifetime (or, perhaps that you want to add to), Fabric-a-brac is for you! And it’s not just for material – there will be all sorts of sewing related goodies up for grabs as well. Oh, and we’re giving away copies of World Sweet World too. What would a fair be without a few freebies :)

12noon – 4pm,  Saturday 18 April
Brooklyn Community Centre, 18 Harrison St, Wellington

Shine those shoes, sew that helmet cover…

Intersect, the young professionals’ sustainability network has issued a challenge – to get 350 frocks on bikes on the 6th of December (Global day of Climate action). That means we have to glam ourselves up, take cycling back from the lycra-wearers and promenade through our cities looking divine. SIgn up to Intersect to join the discussion, and to find out what’s actually happening on the day.

Fair Trade Fortnight

Check out all the stuff that’s going on during the Fair Trade Fortnight, from May 3rd til May 18th. The Trade Aid shops around New Zealand are raising awareness for Environmental Justice, showcasing the Junk to Green Funk pieces that people have submitted.

All Trade Aid events are centered around World Fair Trade Day on the 10th of May, which will see the Fair Trade Food Fiesta in the Wellington Trade Aid shop (86-96 Victoria Street), including baking, cooking demonstrations and tastings, and speakers, including Sue Kedgley (Green Party), and live music.

Autumn Craft

Hi everyone, another crafty fair is coming up this weekend – the Autumn Craft Festival in Lower Hutt. We’ll be there spreading World-Sweet-World-ness and will also cover two chairs during the fair. Hands on!

The exhibition will be open from 10am til 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

like a craft fair

well… sort of. In issue 2 (which is well underway, incidentally – thanks to all the people offering to contribute) we’ve got a new gallery ads section in the back of the mag. The idea is that it will be a bit of a showcase for creative types who are making stuff. We’ve had quite a few shop owners looking in the magpie’s nest section for goodies to stock in their shops, so we thought we should give more of you makers the opportunity to get your goods out there too. Rates are reasonably cheap and cheerful – go download the rate card here if you’re interested.
