outdoor knit

Its the new graffitti- and It’ll make you smile…

You may have seen the “it’ll all be ok” installation near the Wellington bypass… (it even got a mention in the Dom Post)

Or perhaps you’ve noticed a tree limb lovingly wrapped in a knitted cosy somewhere?

If this sort of thing takes your fancy, Nikki White of the exellent Outdoor Knit Blog is calling for helpers on her next project… “A Fence full of Hearts”

Check out her blog, or the facebook event page to get involved, and spread the love!

(also, check out this for some amazing international knit graffiti pics…)

‘Zilka Recycled Hangers’

Clothes hangers made entirely from recycled British newspapers. Quite cool, though I wonder what happens to the other piece?

I found these for sale online at ‘Pure Design’

green hangerHmm, these claim to be the greenest of green hangers… “Green Hangers”

clothespinbagOr why not recycle an existing coat hanger into a peg bag? Free online tutorial here.

That’s enough from me, I’d better go sort out my wardrobe…

Handmade Nation

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Handmade Nation PosterWow… an amazing sounding film about cool people making cool things!

(from the wellingtoncreative website): “The documentary is about the new wave of art, craft and design and how these mediums are being reinvented from granny style cross-stitch to modern works of art in their own right.

The poster seems to be marketing it toward people wanting to make a living from their craft, but I think anyone interested in the arts, craft or design from makers through to buyers would be interested…

40/20

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Don’t forget to attend the meetings being held by Environment Minister Nick Smith on New Zealand’s 2020 target around the country over the coming days.  It’s really important that they have plenty of people attend who support a 40% less Co2 emission target for New Zealand.

The Wellington meeting will be held tonight at the Oceania Room, Te Papa, Wellington, from 7.30pm – 9pm.

Check out where and when there’s a meeting near you, and RSVP here.

Thanks, Houghton Valley School!

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

This morning I gave a short talk to one of the senior classes at Houghton Valley Primary School. They were great, and very patient with me as I explained stuff that they probably already knew. They did ask some great questions though, so I guess I had a bit of knowledge that they didn’t.

My particular favorites were, “how much do you earn” (little capitalist!), and “can you leave your email address when you go?”. I’m expecting a few projects to turn up in my inbox in the not-so-distant future.

Thanks for having me, guys!
