Nanageddon: The End of Craft as We Know It

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

nanageddon

this sounds awesome…

ROAR! Gallery invites you to Nanageddon, a new group Exhibition featuring the work of: Outdoor Knit, Di McMillan, Caroline McQuarrie, Athina Moisa, Ann Moore, Rowan Panther, Matthew Squire, Margaret Tolland, Shar Young, and KIRAN-X.

August 20th – September 12th 2009.

Nanageddon showcases artists who are hailing the revival of stitching and knitting, subverting the idea of “Nana-craft” and reclaiming the art of craft in truly revealing ways. In this exhibition, what might sound like the work of a harmless old lady, turns out to be the act of some edgy, post-modern and radical thinker.

Fabric-a-brac

fabric-a-brac
I’m really excited about an event that we’re sponsoring next month. It’s called Fabric-a-brac, and basically it’s the fabric equivalent of a huge second-hand clothes market. All those of you who have an oversized stash of fabric that you’re really not going to get through in your lifetime (or, perhaps that you want to add to), Fabric-a-brac is for you! And it’s not just for material – there will be all sorts of sewing related goodies up for grabs as well. Oh, and we’re giving away copies of World Sweet World too. What would a fair be without a few freebies :)

12noon – 4pm,  Saturday 18 April
Brooklyn Community Centre, 18 Harrison St, Wellington

Stalls are really, really, really, REALLY cheap, so do get in touch with Josie if you’re interested in selling, or getting a group of friends together to do so: fabricabracwgtn@gmail.com

Start sorting out your sewing room – this is going to be fun! Hooray!

Jeeze!

Monday, October 13th, 2008

I forgot to tell you about this event coming up this weekend: Art in Action, a show of art and craft, is on at the Philosophy House, 33 Aro Street. I was there three years ago and was really fascinated by the artists making instruments on site, a harp maker, and a violin maker. There where a lot of pretty pictures too, and the coffee and food was, hmmm… it did the job. But I’ll definitely go this weekend, it’s so worth the $10 entrance fee.
